"Good day to you all. I
was born on June 23, 2000 and soon I will celebrate my first birthday. I am yet
the smallest one, but it does not mind, Important is that
I am here! Before I will grow up, I will need help of all of you, great
brothers and sisters, to learn, how, in the environment, into which I was born,
to follow Jesus Christ, to value every sincerely believing man and understand
him in his beauty and uniqueness. I believe that when more candles will shine
on my cake, I will be able to offer you much more. But till that time I beg for
love, patience, help and understanding of all of you.Thank you,
your Commission for Youth
Ecumenical Council of Churches
The
starting points and targets of ECC Commission for Youth1/, determined in May 2000, which have served as a background
for the first meeting of young people from various churches, interested in this
work, indicated the first steps, but did not clear up doubts regarding the
sense of this work.
When
I evaluate retrospectively the whole situation, I must bow to the God-s wisdom
in leading all of us in this Commission. Wherever we were doubting, He showed
us the direction. Only thanks to Him this work could begin to progress. Only
thanks to Him we can say: "We are here".
In
the year 2000, the Commission for Youth has built a contact with the EYCE.2/ In October the CFY participated in the main meeting of this
organization held near Budapest, through its reporter and got acquainted with
the EYCE-s main program. In January 2001, the CFY has prepared with help of ECC
an invitation for the Executive Commission of EYCE to visit Prague. The EYCE EC
finally not only held the meeting in the seat of ECC, but met also personally
with individual members of the ECC CFY.
The
Commission has established providing the written documentation of all events,
both local and foreign ones, and has begun with preparation of Statute of ECC
CFY. The Commission works in accordance with its determination in the area of
youth, and develops mutual contacts between the churches, as well as between
the foreign youth ecumenical organizations. It supports the ecumenical
activities, local, national, and international ones. In future the CFY would
like to become an ecumenical informational and organizational center for the
whole Czech Republic.
The
representatives serving in the ECC CFY were officially delegated by these
churches: Baptist Union in the Czech Republic, Brethren Church, Czechoslovak
Hussite Church, Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, United Methodist Church,
Silesian Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession, Old Catholic Church and
Czech Bishop-s Conference.
